Well-being in the Workplace
Counselling is used in a variety of ways to help employees in dealing with their problems
Mental health issues at work affects more than the person under stress. Managers may be able to identify employees who may not be performing as effectively as they once were. This could be because of increased workload or other productivity-related issues in the workplace, but could just as easily be caused by unhealthy relationships with other colleagues. Whatever the cause, stress, anxiety and pressure will continue to impact on staff and efficiency, until it results in illness, depression and a decrease in job satisfaction.
Offering formal counselling sessions to stressed employees will help them feel valued, and will enable the individual to identify the cause of their problems and issues. Counselling can help increase staff morale, boost confidence and self-esteem, improve productivity and efficiency and create a more relaxed working environment.
We provide businesses with a professional Well-being in the Workplace counselling service for their employees. Our Counsellor's who are experience and accredited under ACCPH are able to provide a safe environment for staff to explore their thoughts and feelings, and with support, find their own solutions.
Why Counselling Makes Sense
An estimated 141.4 million working days were lost because of sickness or injury in the UK in 2018, the equivalent to 4.4 days per worker.
The report says 15.4 million working days were lost to work-related stress, depression or anxiety in 2017/18 (Labour Force Survey) with an average of 25.8 days lost per case. In total, 57 per cent of all working days lost to ill health were due to stress and anxiety.
Workers living in Wales and Scotland had the highest sickness absence rates in 2018, at 2.4%
The groups with the highest rates of sickness absence in 2018 were women, older workers, those with long-term health conditions, people working part-time, and those working in organisations with 500 or more employees.
The groups with the greatest reduction in sickness absence rates between 1997 and 2018 are workers with long-term health conditions, workers aged 50 to 64 years, and those in the public sector.
The four most common reasons for sickness absence in 2018 were minor illnesses (including coughs and colds), musculoskeletal problems (including back pain and neck and upper limb problems), “other” conditions (including accidents, poisonings and diabetes), and mental health conditions (including stress, depression and anxiety).
