Meet The Team
Founder at A Positive Start CIC
Counselling, Training & Development.
Author of S.T.A.N.D for Prevention & Senses Transformation.
Hello, I'm Deborah,
I am passionate about helping people overcome the effects of trauma in their lives; supporting & empowering them to regain hope and possibility for the future. One thing I know for sure is, 'Anything and Everything is possible with the right mindset - if only you can believe !
A Positive Start CIC came about as a result of my own journey of recovery from abuse, a thirst for understanding and a need for positive change.
Although it was many years ago now, I know from experience that genuine understanding, compassion and empathy are what's important to the person seeking support for any reason, and this remains at the heart of the services that we provide.
Founded on a People First philosophy, our team are informed by lived experience, so if you came here looking for understanding & support, you can be sure you are in safe hands.
We provide trauma informed person-centred therapy and support, which means we put you first. We will not try to coach you on how to be you, or tell you what we think you should be thinking or feeling. You are the expert on you, our role is to listen, aim to understand without judgement, care and support you.
I appreciate how hard it is to take that first step. To trust a stranger at a time when recognising the truth and trusting your own judgement may be difficult.
When you feel you are ready to take that step, know we are here
to listen and support you.
To get in-touch, simply send me a message via the instant chat, email or text and I will get back to you as soon as I'm available or you can Book an appointment online and I will be in touch. I hope to hear from you,

Hi, I'm Sharon,
They say you can let the negative experiences life has given you, make you bitter or make you better. This is a crossroads I was all too familiar with myself after living through what I can only describe as "a chain of unfortunate events", which began from a very young age.
I engaged in many destructive behaviours over the years, trying to hide the pain I had inside me, ruining many great opportunities, which of-course, was always someone else's fault.
I always knew I had so much more, better to offer myself. Not anyone else... but myself.
When I finally turned everything back to myself and realised that how my life played out from then, was entirely down to me.... it changed my whole perspective of life, It's how I dealt with things, its how I reacted to what was going on around me and it was the pain I was carrying that shaped the life I was living.
I began engaging in talking therapies, figuring myself out and understanding the fundamentals of who I was and why I was. It was the best thing I have ever done.
Fast forward to today, I now make it my duty to help others to realise their own capacities and see the true potential that lies within. We all have the ability to love the life we live and be the best version of ourselves, however, sometimes we need some support to achieve it. It takes a brave and determined soul to reach out and ask for help. If you are reading this, you have already shown how brave and determined you are.
Follow that little voice that says you can do this and let us help you find yourself again.
We all get a little lost sometimes... I look forward to supporting you

Drawing and Talking Therapy works by encouraging each side of the brain to work together to process difficult or painful memories by combining drawing (a right brained activity) and talking (a left brained activity).
Painful emotional memories are stored in visual form in the right-hand side of the brain and can be expressed in symbolic form in a young persons drawings.
By talking about the drawing an internal acceptance process can take place enabling the person to acknowledge the experience is in the past.
Drawing and Talking gives the child a feeling of control over events, building their confidence which leads to increased motivation and self-esteem.
